Four-Month Traffic Adjustment Begins at Tetteh Quarshie Interchange

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, has announced temporary traffic changes around the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange as construction work continues on the Accra–Tema Motorway and Extension Project.

According to the Authority, the new traffic management arrangement is necessary to allow engineers to carry out T-beam launching works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge.

As part of the temporary changes, lanes on the N4 northbound carriageway, the stretch used by vehicles travelling from Accra toward Madina, will be closed to traffic for the duration of the works.

To manage traffic flow, the southbound carriageway, which currently has four lanes for vehicles moving from Madina to Accra, will be reconfigured. The lanes will be split into two lanes in each direction so that vehicles travelling both from Accra to Madina and from Madina to Accra can continue to use the road.

“This arrangement is necessary to facilitate the T-beam launching works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge,” the Ghana Highway Authority said in a notice to the public.

The temporary traffic changes took effect on Monday, March 9, 2026, and are expected to remain in place for about four months while the construction works are completed.

The Authority explained that the lane reduction is intended to create a safe working space for engineers and construction workers while also protecting motorists using the route.

Motorists who frequently use the stretch have been urged to drive cautiously and comply with traffic signs and directions from officials managing the flow of vehicles.

“Motorists are kindly advised to exercise caution, observe all traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the works,” the statement added.

The Tetteh Quarshie Interchange area is one of the busiest road networks in Accra, linking traffic from the Accra–Tema Motorway, Madina, Legon, and other key parts of the capital. Authorities expect some delays and are urging road users to plan their journeys accordingly while the works continue.
