Tyla’s “Push 2 Start” Beats Davido’s “With You” at the 68th Grammy Awards

South African singer Tyla has won her second Grammy Award, claiming Best African Music Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old artist earned the honour with her hit single “Push 2 Start,” triumphing over a highly competitive field that included Nigerian stars Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo. The award was presented during the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena.

With the win, Tyla becomes the first artist to win the category twice since its introduction in 2024. She previously took home the inaugural award with her global breakout single “Water,” cementing her growing influence on the international music scene.

Tyla’s victory sparked celebrations among South African fans and also reignited conversations across Africa about Grammy voting patterns. The debate was fueled by the absence of Nigerian winners in the category despite the country’s artists dominating global charts and streaming platforms in recent years.

She edged out Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido featuring Omah Lay on “With You,” Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid on “Gimme Dat,” and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope and Love.”

Known for her distinctive fusion of amapiano, pop, and R&B, Tyla has continued to build a sound that resonates with global audiences. Since emerging from Johannesburg and signing with an international label in 2021, she has achieved major commercial milestones, including a top-25 debut on the Billboard 200 and sustained international chart success.

Her back-to-back Grammy wins further underline her status as one of Africa’s most influential new voices on the world stage.
