The newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has outlined his vision, emphasizing staff welfare, discipline, and a commitment to delivering on government promises. Speaking at the handing over ceremony today, he made it clear that his actions would be guided by the President’s vision and the party’s policies.
“I come here as an appointee of His Excellency, the President of our country. What we are going to do from now is enshrine in our manifesto, all that has to do with health especially what Ghana Health Service is tasked to do. That will be our vision.

Prioritizing Staff Welfare and Discipline
Prof. Kaba Akoriyea reiterated his long-standing commitment to staff welfare, a passion he said had only grown stronger over the years. He also stressed the need for law and order, warning against office politics and internal conflicts.

“If you come into my office, just know that you are coming for a professional job. You are not coming to backbite about any other person because you will be surprised, I will call the person to come so that you tell him to his face,” he cautioned.
A Focus on Fiscal Responsibility
Addressing financial prudence within the Ghana Health Service , the new Director-General cited an example from the Public Health Division’s (PHD) annual review, which planned to invite over 300 people. He questioned whether the available resources could support such an event and stressed the importance of efficient resource allocation, ensuring that all divisions within the Ghana Health Service are properly funded and no essential needs are neglected.

“If we have money to take care of this, I don’t want to hear any division telling me they don’t have money or water. We need to reorganize so that every part of the service benefits,” he stressed.
A New Era of Accountability
Prof. Kaba Akoriyea made it clear that his tenure would be about “resetting the system” to ensure efficiency and transparency. He underscored the Ghanan Health Service’s role in implementing government policies as outlined in the manifesto, urging all staff to align with this vision.
“The job here is to make sure that staff welfare is taken care of. The job here is to implement what we promised the people of this country. So that we can all say we promised this, and we delivered,” he declared.

As he embarks on his leadership journey, Prof. Kaba Akoriyea’s message is clear: his administration will be defined by accountability, efficiency, and a commitment to improving Ghana’s healthcare system.
