GFA Sacks Otto Addo After Back-to-Back Defeats

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the dismissal of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, ending his tenure following a string of disappointing results.

Addo, who previously served as an assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund, exits the role after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats in their pre–World Cup friendly matches against Austria and Germany. The losses appear to have influenced the Association’s decision as the team looks to rebuild ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement confirming the development, the GFA said it had “parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.”

The Association expressed appreciation for his service, stating: “The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”

The GFA also assured fans that a new direction for the team will soon be announced, noting that it “will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”

Addo’s departure marks yet another shift in the national team’s technical leadership as Ghana continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
