Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries to represent the constituency again ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, the former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection said her decision followed extensive consultations with party leadership and executives, as well as personal reflection on her commitment to the constituency.
Adwoa Safo said her relationship with the people of Dome-Kwabenya was built on years of shared experiences, sacrifice and dedicated service, adding that her connection with residents went beyond politics.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives, and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the principles and values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she stated.
She explained that she had earlier indicated her intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency but had reconsidered after reflecting on the responsibility of representing its residents in Parliament.
“Upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate that there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in Parliament,” she said.
The former MP said her decision to return to the race was driven by her continued commitment to Dome-Kwabenya and her belief that she still had more to contribute to the constituency’s development.
Describing Dome-Kwabenya as one of Ghana’s fastest-growing constituencies, she acknowledged the area’s significant development opportunities and challenges.
She added that during her 12 years as Member of Parliament, she worked with residents, party members, community and religious leaders, and other stakeholders to address some of the constituency’s challenges and deliver development projects.
Her declaration sets the stage for a possible contest in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries, although the party is yet to announce the timetable and guidelines for the exercise.
