GACL Announces Temporary Road Closure at Terminal 2 for Refurbishment Works

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced a temporary partial closure of the road in front of the Departure Hall at Terminal 2 of the Accra International Airport as refurbishment works begin on the facility’s frontage and facade.

According to a public notice issued by management, the closure takes effect from Monday, May 11, 2026, and is expected to remain in place for one month.

GACL explained that the temporary closure forms part of ongoing construction and upgrading works at Terminal 2 aimed at improving the airport’s infrastructure and overall passenger experience.

“As part of the ongoing construction works at Terminal 2, a section of the road in front of the Departure hall will be temporarily closed from Monday, May 11, 2026,” portions of the statement said.

The company further noted that the closure is necessary “to allow for safe refitting works on the frontage and facade of Terminal 2.”

During the period of construction, the affected section of the road will not be accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians, a situation airport authorities say is necessary to ensure safety around the work area.

To reduce inconvenience to travellers and airport users, GACL stated that traffic management measures have been put in place.

“Directional signage and traffic management personnel will be on-site to guide commuters and ensure smooth movement,” the statement added.

Management of GACL also apologised for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause and appealed to the public for patience and cooperation throughout the refurbishment period.

“GACL regrets any inconvenience and appreciates the cooperation of the travelling public as we carry out these works,” the notice concluded.
