Ghana Police Bust Major Internet Fraud Syndicate in Ashanti Region; 44 Cameroonians Arrested

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 44 Cameroonian nationals, including a 29-year-old woman identified as Bella Marie, in connection with a suspected internet fraud and human trafficking operation.

The arrests were made at a residence in Kenyasi Abrem, following a police-led investigation that uncovered a sophisticated scheme linked to a network known as Q-Net.

According to the police, the suspects lured victims with promises of lucrative employment opportunities in Ghana. In return, unsuspecting individuals were required to pay an upfront fee of 4.5 million CFA Francs, equivalent to approximately GH¢134,572.

The operation, which targeted mostly young individuals from Cameroon, is believed to be part of a broader transnational network exploiting vulnerable youth under the guise of job recruitment.

The suspects were detained after intelligence gathered by our team indicated fraudulent recruitment activities taking place at the said location,” a police source stated. “Investigations revealed that these individuals were operating under a deceptive employment scheme, which constitutes both internet fraud and elements of human trafficking.”

All 44 suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities say the operation is part of a wider crackdown on organized crime rings engaged in cyber-related offenses and trafficking within the region.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating such crimes and urged the public, especially foreign nationals seeking employment, to remain vigilant and verify recruitment agencies before making any financial commitments.

More updates will follow as the investigation progresses
