Government to Introduce Same-Day Passport Delivery.

The government has announced plans to introduce a same-day passport delivery service as part of efforts to improve efficiency and eliminate delays in the issuance process.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed the initiative during the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, September 15.

He explained that the new service will cater to individuals with emergencies and members of the business community who require faster turnaround times.

“We are also introducing a same-day passport delivery service for those with emergencies and members of the business community who may require super express service with a shorter turnaround time beyond the expedited service that we already render. This is contained in the new charges,” he said.

According to him, once the new charges take effect, Ghanaians will be able to receive their passports in a single day without relying on middlemen, popularly known as “guru” boys.

Mr. Ablakwa further assured that the era of long backlogs in passport issuance, which previously saw over 70,000 applications delayed for months, is over.

In addition to the same-day delivery, the Ministry has introduced a modernised digital application platform, set up a 24-hour customer call centre, and streamlined the process in collaboration with the National Identification Authority (NIA).

These reforms, the Minister noted, are part of the government’s broader efforts to modernise public service delivery and ensure transparency in the passport acquisition process.
