Government to Prioritize Local Products in Procurement Policy

While presenting the first budget under the John Dramani Mahamaadministration, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting Made-in-Ghana goods as part of the 24-hour economy policy.

The government has outlined plans to use its procurement processes to support locally produced goods and services, reinforcing its Made in Ghana agenda. According to Dr. Forson, prioritizing local products in government purchasing decisions will help stimulate demand for Ghanaian goods, support domestic industries, create jobs, and strengthen the national economy.

“Mr. Speaker, I came to the chamber today with a Made-in-Ghana bag. Many do not realize that we sew quality suits right here in Ghana,” he remarked, underscoring the need for greater appreciation and patronage of local craftsmanship.

By aligning procurement policies with the Made-in-Ghana agenda, the government aims to encourage investment in local industries, enhance production capacity, and foster economic self-reliance.
