I Will Drastically Reduce Presidential Staffers to Ensure Efficient Governance – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced his commitment to significantly reducing the number of presidential staffers in his administration as part of efforts to ensure a leaner and more efficient government.

Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term on Thursday, February 27, he stressed the urgent need to cut down on excessive government spending and redirect resources toward national development.

According to President Mahama, past administrations have seen a steady rise in the number of staff at the presidency, leading to bloated bureaucracy and unnecessary expenditure.

“We cannot continue to run a government where the cost of administration outweighs the benefits to the people. My government will take decisive steps to reduce the number of presidential staffers to promote efficiency, accountability, and responsible governance,” he stated.

He assured Ghanaians that this decision would not weaken governance but rather enhance productivity and effectiveness in public administration.

“A smaller, more competent team is what we need to drive our development agenda. We must cut down on bureaucracy and focus on delivering tangible results that improve the lives of Ghanaians,” President Mahama affirmed.

This move, he noted, is part of broader governance reforms aimed at ensuring that public resources are utilized efficiently while fostering a government that is more responsive to the needs of its people.
