The Ministry of Sports has assured the public that the ministry will not protect anyone found culpable in the alleged visa scandal linked to Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, October 9, Wonder Mandel, aide to the minister, said the ministry was committed to accountability and would fully cooperate with ongoing investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He said the allegations involved the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Tourism Authority, Tribe Culture Fest and individuals accused of collecting money from prospective travellers.
Mandel stressed that any public official, private organisation or individual found to have collected money improperly, falsified institutional information, misrepresented visa applicants to a diplomatic mission or abused public office would be required to answer for their actions.
He, however, cautioned against the circulation of inaccurate dates, conflicting figures, incomplete documents and unverified claims, insisting that allegations must not be presented as facts.
He said some claims made by Hon Vincent Ekow Assafuah concerning the ministry and the minister required clarification based on the original documents.
Mandel explained that the briefing was organised to present relevant documents and clarify the processes surrounding the visa facilitation arrangement, following what he described as persistent misinformation and inconsistencies in public discussions.
He added that the ministry was not asking the media or the public to accept its account without scrutiny but was providing the documents for independent examination to establish the facts.
