Minority Caucus Raises Concern with Speaker Over Alleged Attempted Arrest of MP Ntim Fordjour by National Intelligence Bureau

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has sent a formal petition to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, raising concerns about an alleged attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament.

The petition, signed by Minority Chief Whip Hon. Annoh-Dompreh, states that the attempted arrest happened on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the MP’s residence.

According to the Minority, this action violates parliamentary procedures and shows a lack of respect for Parliament’s authority and independence.

They referred to earlier instructions from the Speaker, which outlined that MPs should only be approached through the proper channels when under investigation or involved in related matters.

The petition also mentions a letter sent to the NIB on April 2, 2025, reminding them of these procedures, based on Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Minority claims this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. They cited similar encounters involving MPs for Yagba Kubori, Hon. Mustapha Usif, and Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng.

They argue that these actions threaten the principle of separation of powers and the respect due to elected officials.

The petition calls on the Speaker to urgently reinforce the earlier directives and work with national security leaders to ensure that any dealings with MPs follow constitutional guidelines and maintain the dignity of Parliament
