NDC Now Holds Two-Thirds Majority — Mahama Ayariga

“Ghanaians have given us all the numbers we need to reset Ghana. We will not abuse it.”

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) commitment to responsible governance following the swearing-in of Dr. Ewurabena Aubynn as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.

Addressing Parliament shortly after her induction, Mr. Ayariga noted that the NDC has now attained a historic two-thirds majority in the House, a significant milestone that, according to him, opens the door for transformative reforms in the country.

“Mr. Speaker, I think we now have the NDC now has two-thirds of the house. With this number, we can do many good things for this country,” he said.

He emphasized that this development, endorsed by the Ghanaian electorate, is not just a political victory but a call to action and responsibility. The Majority Leader assured the public that the party intends to use this new advantage to pursue constitutional reforms and reset the direction of the nation.

“Ghanaians today have given us all the numbers we need to reset Ghana,” he stated. “But I want to assure Ghanaians that what President John Dramani Mahama said when he was being sworn in still stands: that the National Democratic Congress will not abuse the majority given to it by Ghanaians.”

Ayariga’s comments come at a time when the NDC’s growing influence in Parliament is drawing attention nationwide. Political observers believe the current parliamentary strength places the party in a strategic position to drive legislative reforms and implement critical national policies without gridlock.

Welcoming Dr. Aubynn to the legislative chamber, Ayariga extended warm congratulations and pledged full support from the Majority side.

“Let me assure her that everybody in this chamber, on this side, is available to help her find her feet in this House. And very soon, we’ll be expecting her maiden statement and we’ll be applauding her,” he added. The swearing-in of Dr. Aubynn follows her recent electoral victory in a by-election widely seen as a test of public confidence in the NDC’s agenda. Her addition further strengthens the party’s momentum as it gears up for its ambitious reform agenda in the coming months.
