Parliament has ramped up security ahead of its Tuesday sitting to prevent the four suspended Members of Parliament from entering the chamber.
These lawmakers were suspended for two weeks by Speaker Alban Bagbin following a violent altercation during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30, at the Appointments Committee meeting.
In preparation for the day’s proceedings, which are scheduled to begin at 12 noon, there is a significant police presence around Parliament. Barricades have been strategically placed throughout the building to ensure that the suspended MPs cannot gain access to the chamber.
Meanwhile, the Minority is protesting the suspension. Dressed in red and black, they gathered outside the Parliament building, chanting patriotic songs and demanding the reversal of Speaker Bagbin’s decision, which they describe as a unilateral action.
