Parliament Resumes Sitting for Final Meeting of the Year.

Ghana’s Parliament will reconvene today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the Ninth Parliament’s First Session, marking the year’s final parliamentary sitting.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Parliament of Ghana, this final meeting is expected to be busy as Members of Parliament focus on important national issues, including presenting and approving the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is scheduled to present the 2026 Budget in mid-November. This budget will outline the government’s fiscal plans and policy direction for the coming year.

During this meeting, two newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislators, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, MP-elect for Akwatia, and Professor Alidu Seidu, MP-elect for Tamale Central, will also be officially sworn in.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is further expected to vet and consider the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice.

Parliament noted that this session will be crucial as legislators “consider key legislative business, including the presentation and approval of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, as well as several important bills and committee reports.”

Beyond these, the Third Meeting will focus on scrutinizing national fiscal plans, reviewing existing laws, and ensuring effective oversight of government activities, a mandate that underscores Parliament’s role in maintaining transparency and accountability in governance.

As the year’s final sitting unfolds, all eyes are on the House to deliberate on policies that shape Ghana’s economic direction heading into 2026.
