Police Investigate Kwabenya Incident Involving Former MP Adwoa Safo Amid Conflicting Reports

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is at the centre of conflicting accounts following a reported violent incident at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026, which has triggered police investigations and public debate over what actually transpired.

Initial reports suggested that gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in which the former MP was present near a residence linked to her younger brother, where a gathering was reportedly taking place in connection with succession matters within the Kristo Asafo Mission. Some accounts claimed armed men discharged multiple rounds, with allegations that she sustained an injury and was rushed for medical treatment, although her condition was later described as stable.

However, the Kristo Asafo Mission has strongly rejected claims that Adwoa Safo was shot. In its statement, the church said the incident occurred after she allegedly drove her vehicle into the entrance gates of the property following a church-related event, causing damage to two metal gates. The mission maintained that the situation created tension among those present and that security personnel intervened to prevent further escalation. It also dismissed reports that any shooting targeted her, urging the public to disregard what it described as misleading information.

Amid the dispute, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that it is investigating the incident. According to police updates, six private security guards have been arrested in connection with the matter. Authorities say a search at the scene led to the retrieval of multiple firearms, including pump-action guns and a loaded pistol, along with ammunition and communication equipment.

Preliminary police findings indicate that officers responding to a distress call met a situation involving a ceremony at the residence, where access was reportedly denied when Adwoa Safo arrived. Police further state that armed security personnel at the location discharged firearms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries and gunshot damage to a vehicle. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and the roles of all individuals involved.

The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions linked to leadership succession disputes within the Kristo Asafo Mission, with court actions reportedly challenging aspects of the process. Authorities have assured the public that further arrests may follow as investigations continue.
