President Mahama Reshuffles Cabinet, Appoints Hon Gilbert Adjei as Defence Minister

President John Dramani Mahama has reshuffled his Cabinet, appointing the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, as the new Minister for Defence.

The changes, announced by the Presidency today, August 7, form part of a broader ministerial reshuffle aimed at reassigning key ministers to new portfolios.

Hon Adjei has been moved from the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry to take charge of the Defence Ministry. The President has formally submitted the changes to Parliament through the Speaker in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

As part of the reshuffle, Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon Mahama Ayariga, has been nominated as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs-designate.

The current Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has also been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

Meanwhile, Korle Klottey MP, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been appointed as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation-designate.

The nominations and reassignments are subject to Parliamentary approval before the respective ministers can assume their new portfolios.
