The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has increased electricity tariffs by 3.49 % and water tariffs by 0.85%, with the new rates taking effect from July 1, 2026.
The tariff adjustments were announced in a statement issued on June 22, 2026, as part of the Commission’s quarterly review mechanism aimed at reflecting changes in key economic and operational factors affecting utility service delivery.
“The existing electricity and water tariffs have been reviewed upwards by 3.49% and 0.85%, respectively, effective July 01, 2026,” the Commission stated.
According to the PURC, the review considered movements in the Ghana cedi-dollar exchange rate, inflation, fuel costs and the electricity generation mix.
The Commission applied a weighted average exchange rate of GHS11.2228 to one US dollar for the third quarter of 2026, representing a 0.2 % depreciation of the cedi compared to the previous quarter.
It also used an average inflation rate of 3.43 per cent for the period from April 1 to June 19, 2026, down from 4.17 per cent in the previous quarter.
The weighted average cost of natural gas was revised downward by 1.58% to US$7.9708 per MMBtu, while the electricity generation mix remained unchanged at 20.9% hydro and 79.1% thermal.
“These quarterly adjustments are undertaken by the Commission to maintain the real value of the existing tariffs, which would enable the utility service providers to remain financially viable and to deliver their services to consumers,” the PURC explained.
