UG Orders Students with CGPA Below 1.00 to Withdraw

The University of Ghana (UG) has ordered undergraduate students with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.

In a notice posted on Facebook on October 22, 2026, the University’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in accordance with section 9.26 of the University’s Regulations for Junior Members (2017). The Regulation requires undergraduate students to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of the school and the department to progress to the next level.

The Directorate explained that the university’s regulation does not provide for probation for students whose CGPA does not meet the requirement. Therefore, students whose CGPA remain below 1.00 after the release of their registered courses will be required to withdraw from their programmes.

Affected students have been advised to check their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) web and initiate the withdrawal process through the Students and Staff portal (STS). However, the Directorate noted that, in some departments, the relevant school or department would initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of students.

Students seeking clarification about their academic standing or withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic offices.

The University also indicated that its careers and counselling Directorate remains available to provide support and guidance to the students affected by the directive.
