“Your Loss Is Our Loss” — Afenyo-Markin Consoles President Mahama After Helicopter Tragedy.

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has extended a message of solidarity and deep sorrow to President John Dramani Mahama and the nation, following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight government and military officials on Wednesday.

Describing the incident as a “national catastrophe,” Afenyo-Markin, in a solemn statement on behalf of the Minority Caucus, emphasized the shared grief felt by all Ghanaians.

“This is a profound human loss that touches the very soul of our Nation,” he said. “The victims were fathers, husbands, sons, and devoted patriots who awakened this fateful Wednesday morning with the noble intention of serving Ghana.”

Addressing the President directly, the Minority Leader expressed the unity of the political class in times of tragedy.

“Your loss is our loss; your grief is our grief,” he said. “In this moment of national tragedy, we stand united with you as Ghanaians mourning together.”

Afenyo-Markin’s message went beyond political lines, extending condolences to all families affected by the crash.

“To the grieving families of all eight victims, Government Ministers, members of the Majority Caucus, NDC Members, Military Personnel, and Public Servants alike, our hearts go out to you in this darkest hour,” he noted.

Breaking from formalities, Afenyo-Markin shared a personal reflection, acknowledging the human side of the tragedy.

“I must speak from the heart about two men I knew not as political opponents, but as fellow Ghanaians,” he said, highlighting the emotional weight of the loss within Parliament.

The Minority Leader ended his tribute with a powerful appeal to national unity and patriotism.

“Let us honour these eight souls by supporting our Armed Forces and protecting Ghana’s stability and peace.”
