Hon Afenyo-Markin Pledges Loyalty to Dr Bawumia, Calls for Caucus Unity

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus and its newly elected flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, following the party’s presidential primary.

Hon Afenyo-Markin paid a courtesy visit to Dr Bawumia at his residence to formally congratulate him on his victory and to signal the caucus’s readiness to support his leadership going forward.

Speaking after the meeting, with 1957news, the Minority Leader made it clear that the parliamentary caucus is fully aligned with the flag bearer’s vision.

“I’m with the flag bearer of our party, and our commitment as a caucus is to him,” he said.

He noted that Parliament will play a central role in advancing Dr Bawumia’s agenda, stressing that it is the legislature that will defend and advocate for the party’s vision on the floor of the House.

“It is Parliament that is going to carry his vision and advocate for him on the House floor,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

Reiterating his personal stance, the Minority Leader emphasised that his allegiance remains firmly rooted in the party’s collective cause.

“As a leader of the caucus, my loyalty to the party’s cause and our flag bearer is on solid ground, and that is the discussion we’ve had,” he added.

Hon  Afenyo-Markin also used the occasion to call for unity within the party, noting that cohesion will be critical as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“He called for unity, and that is what we are going to rally around and deliver in 2028,” he said.
