Finance Minister  Leads Ghana’s Delegation to IMF and World Bank Meetings in Bangkok

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand, as the government prepares to outline its next phase of economic transformation.

The meetings, scheduled for October 12 to 18, come ahead of the presentation of the 2027 Budget, where Dr Forson is expected to introduce the government’s New Economy blueprint.

During the engagements, the Finance Minister is expected to hold bilateral talks with the leadership of the IMF, senior World Bank officials, finance ministers and other international development partners to discuss Ghana’s economic progress and future development priorities.

Ghana’s participation comes after positive assessments from the Bretton Woods institutions regarding the country’s efforts to restore economic stability following the 2022 economic crisis.

The government is now seeking to build on those gains by pursuing an economic model that supports sustainable growth, creates decent jobs and strengthens domestic production.

Dr Forson outlined this ambition during his presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, stressing that economic stabilisation was only the beginning of a broader transformation agenda.

“Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry,” he stated.

The New Economy blueprint is expected to provide the direction for this next phase, while the 2027 Budget will outline the policies and measures the government intends to implement.

The Bangkok meetings therefore present an opportunity for Ghana to engage its international partners as it prepares to move from economic recovery towards a more productive and sustainable economy.
