Ghana Airports Company Clears the Air on False Drug Trafficking Allegations

In recent days, a wave of misinformation has swept through sections of the media, alleging the involvement of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) officials in a purported drug trafficking incident at Kotoka International Airport. At the center of the allegations is one Rev. Ntim Fodjour, who claims to have received inside information about two aircraft allegedly used for illegal activities. In response, the management of GACL has issued a strongly worded statement on Monday April 8 ,to set the record straight and clarify the facts surrounding the matter.

According to the statement, the Ghana Airports Company Limited categorically denies any involvement in the circulation of false information and has distanced itself from the claims made by Rev. Fodjour. GACL emphasized that the authority responsible for issuing landing permits to aircraft entering Ghana is the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), working in conjunction with the National Security not GACL. This critical clarification dispels the notion that GACL had any hand in authorizing or overseeing the arrival of the said aircraft.

Additionally, the company noted that all necessary security checks on the aircraft were conducted by Aviation Security and National Security operatives. Ground handling services, on the other hand, were performed by Swissport, a third-party service provider. Most importantly, there was no trace of any illegal substance on board either of the aircraft, as per the thorough investigations carried out.

The statement also sought to protect the integrity of GACL’s leadership, particularly its Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare. The company stated emphatically that Mrs. Opare has no personal or professional connection with Rev. Ntim Fodjour, nor has she ever interacted with him in any form.

In light of the baseless nature of the accusations, GACL has called upon those spreading these allegations to present credible evidence to support their claims. The company has also issued a stern warning, indicating that it will pursue legal action against any individual, media outlet, or entity that continues to propagate false information with the intent of tarnishing the company’s reputation or that of its leadership and the government.

As the allegations continue to make rounds on social media and in certain media circles, GACL is urging the public to remain vigilant and not fall for misleading narratives. “Discerning Ghanaians are entreated to disregard these fictitious and malicious allegations and publications and treat them with the contempt they deserve,” the company said.
