Minority Calls for Sam George’s Dismissal Over “Deceptive” DStv Claims.

The Minority in Parliament has demanded the resignation or dismissal of Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, over what they describe as his “false and deceptive” claims regarding subscription reductions on DStv.

Addressing the press in Accra on Thursday, October 2, Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications Committee, Charles Owiredu, accused the minister of misleading Ghanaians when he announced that the government had secured a 30% reduction in DStv subscription fees.

According to the Minority, MultiChoice Ghana later clarified that the supposed price cut was only part of a temporary promotional upgrade, not a permanent reduction in subscription rates.

Mr. Owiredu described the Minister’s handling of the issue as a breach of public trust and a violation of the President’s code of conduct, which, he said, demands candour and respect in dealing with the public.

“Fellow Ghanaians, for this display of ineptitude, incompetence, and penchant for deceit, we of the Minority demand that, one, the minister render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians for the waste of the nation’s time and resources on this venture,” he stated.

The Minority further insisted that the minister must also account for the fines levied on MultiChoice, while making the case that he is no longer fit to lead the ministry.

“We deem him unfit to continue as the Minister for this strategic Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, and therefore call on him to resign, or for His Excellency the President to fire him,” Mr. Owiredu declared.
