NDC is a Failure – Afenyo-Markin Declares at NPP National Conference

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has issued a harsh critique of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of rebranding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) achievements as their own.

Speaking during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Afenyo-Markin didn’t mince words.

“The message is clear: the NDC is a failure. Ghana deserves better,” he stated to loud applause from party delegates.

The Conference, themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” brought together thousands of party faithful from across the country to deliberate on the future of the NPP. Over 50 consolidated motions were on the agenda, a clear signal of the party’s intent to restructure and re-energize ahead of the next election cycle.

Despite the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, Afenyo-Markin remained optimistic, insisting that the party is not broken, but battle-tested.

“We made mistakes, but we’re not a broken party,” he told the gathering. “We’re only a battle-tested party. We’re not a party of despair.”

He urged members to come together in unity, stressing the need for introspection and internal reconciliation.

“Let’s move with one voice. We’re in a season that demands sober reflection and radical unity,” he said. “This is a time to rebuild, reconnect with the grassroots, re-engage with the base, and reconnect with Ghanaians with a bold new vision for the future.”

According to him, unity should not be mistaken for uniformity, but rather loyalty to a shared purpose. He emphasized that no individual is bigger than the NPP and called for an end to hate campaigns and internal disunity.

“We must rebrand ourselves with better results and strong character,” he added. “Internal discord, suspicions, and disunity have cost us.”

His address served as both a rallying cry and a reality check for the NPP, as it navigates its path forward after losing power. For Afenyo-Markin, the next chapter begins with rebuilding trust not only within the party but also with the Ghanaian people.
