“No Third Term Mahama”_ Minority Caucus Storms Parliament Over Kpandai Seat Ruling

The Minority side of Parliament erupted into loud chants and a spontaneous protest on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, after expressing strong opposition to the declaration of the Kpandai parliamentary seat as vacant.

The Minority Caucus MPs arrived in the chamber clad in black attire, a symbolic gesture of dissatisfaction. The lawmakers held up placards carrying bold messages such as “Where is the National Peace Council?” and “Are Journalists on JDM’s Payroll?” to openly register their displeasure with the situation.

Their protest was triggered by a recent High Court ruling ordering a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election, a decision the Minority Caucus had earlier rejected. According to them, the ruling is politically motivated and threatens the democratic stability of the country.

As tensions rose, the MPs broke into chants within the parliamentary chamber. Some were heard calling out “We want peace!” while others echoed the more politically charged message, “Mahama no third term!”  a slogan highlighting their concern that recent events may be paving the way for an unconstitutional political trajectory.

The Minority insists that the Kpandai decision could set a dangerous precedent. They argue that tampering with the outcome of elections through court rulings risks eroding public trust in the electoral system and affecting national cohesion.
