Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 general elections, according to the latest poll by Global Info Analytics.
The survey, released on Thursday, August 21, 2025, shows Dr. Bawumia commanding 52% support among NPP delegates, placing him well ahead of his closest rival, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, who polled 17%.
Other contenders trail significantly behind. Former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong received 3%, while former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum got 1%. Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, ex-Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, and ex-presidential hopeful Addai Nimo all earned less than 1%.
Despite Dr. Bawumia’s commanding lead, the poll revealed that 10% of delegates remain undecided, while 9% declined to reveal their choice.
The survey sampled 2,656 delegates across 263 out of the 276 constituencies between August 12 and 20, using computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI). Out of this number, 2,560 completed all responses. The poll carries a 99% confidence level with a margin of error of ±2.44%.
The findings suggest Dr. Bawumia is in a strong position to clinch the NPP presidential slot but will need to consolidate support among undecided delegates as the party’s primaries approach.
