The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will begin receiving declarations of interest from prospective parliamentary candidates on November 1, 2026, as it takes the first step towards selecting its candidates for the 2028 general elections.
The party’s online portal will remain open until November 10, with each aspirant required to pay GH¢5,000 to complete the application process.
Announcing the arrangement at a press briefing on Thursday, October 29, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the exercise would allow the party to identify and prepare members interested in contesting its parliamentary primaries.
He explained that prospective candidates would undergo training and capacity-building programmes to help them understand the demands of parliamentary representation.
Mr Kodua Frimpong also said the party would assess applicants against the eligibility requirements in its constitution and the laws of Ghana.
He was quick to clarify that declaring interest does not mean nominations have officially opened or that aspirants can begin campaigning in their constituencies.
“We have still not opened nominations,” he said, adding that the current exercise was simply an initial step in the candidate selection process.
The General Secretary said the initiative was part of efforts to promote a free, fair and transparent process as the party prepares for the 2028 polls.
