Ghana to Offer 1,000 Scholarships to Tertiary Students Across ECOWAS  President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will offer 1,000 scholarships to students from ECOWAS member states to study in Ghanaian universities. This declaration was made on Tuesday, April 22, at the official launch of the ECOWAS at 50 celebrations held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Speaking at the event, President Mahama called for a renewed commitment to diplomacy and integration across the West African sub-region.

“Let this 50th anniversary be a turning point for diplomacy in West Africa. Let us invest more in early warning systems, mediation capabilities, and the empowerment of youth and women as peacebuilders,” he stated.

The President emphasized the need to reposition ECOWAS not only as a political or economic bloc but as a diplomatic anchor for the continent a model for integration, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.

“To mark this moment and strengthen regional bonds, Ghana is offering 1,000 scholarships to tertiary students from across the sub-region to study in our universities,” he declared.

Describing the initiative as an act of solidarity, President Mahama expressed hope for a future where the youth of West Africa see one another not as foreigners, but as partners in development.

He concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s unwavering commitment to the ECOWAS mission and its core values of dialogue, peace, and partnership.
