Real Madrid Mutually Part Ways with Xabi Alonso as head coach

Real Madrid have officially parted ways with head coach Xabi Alonso, bringing an end to his short spell in charge of the club following a run of inconsistent performances.

The decision comes in the wake of a dramatic 3–2 defeat to rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, played on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. That loss proved to be the final straw, prompting discussions between both parties that ultimately led to a separation by mutual consent.

In a statement released by the club, Real Madrid confirmed the decision and paid tribute to the 44-year-old former midfielder:

“Real Madrid C. F. wishes to announce that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to bring his time as first team coach to an end.”

Despite the premature end to his tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu, the club was keen to emphasise the respect and admiration it holds for Alonso, who remains one of the most celebrated figures in its modern history.

“Xabi Alonso will always carry the affection and admiration of all Madridistas because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home.”

The club also extended its appreciation to Alonso’s backroom staff, acknowledging their commitment and effort during a challenging period.

“We would like to thank Xabi Alonso and all his coaching staff for their hard work and dedication throughout this time, and wish them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives.”
