The government has announced a week-long programme of activities to commemorate the first anniversary of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians.
The activities, scheduled from Thursday, July 30 to Saturday, August 7, 2026, will honour the memory of the deceased and provide an opportunity for the nation to reflect on their service and contribution to Ghana.
According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the programme will include memorial lectures, a national inter-faith service, the unveiling of a memorial cenotaph and a nationwide blood donation campaign.
The activities will begin on Thursday, July 30, with the official presentation of the State’s support to the families of the “Departed 8”. On Tuesday, August 4, the Dr Edward Omane Boamah Memorial Lecture will be held at Burma Hall, Burma Camp, at 2:00 p.m.
On Thursday, August 6, a National Inter-Faith Memorial Service will take place at the UPSA Auditorium in Madina at 8:30 a.m., followed by the unveiling of a memorial cenotaph by the Ministry of Defence at 4:00 p.m.
The commemoration will end on Saturday, August 7, with a nationwide “Service to the Soul” blood donation drive at health facilities across the country, including the 37 Military Hospital.
Government is urging Ghanaians to participate in the activities and honour the memory of the eight victims through prayer, remembrance and acts that help save lives.
