Lions Keep the Chase Alive with 2-1 Victory Over Samartex

Heart of Lions kept their Ghana Premier League title dreams alive with a spirited 2-1 victory over Samartex on Saturday, May 4, in a thrilling Round 30 clash at the Kpando Stadium.

The home side came out firing on all cylinders, asserting dominance early in the first half. Yaw Danso broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a well-taken finish after a swift attacking move. Just three minutes later, Nana Oppong doubled the advantage, capping off a brilliant spell for the Lions.

Samartex struggled to find their footing as Heart of Lions maintained relentless pressure throughout the first half. The visitors only managed a few half-chances as they tried to withstand the Lions’ high tempo.

After the break, Samartex regrouped and showed more intent, earning a penalty in the 60th minute which Baba Musa calmly slotted home to reduce the deficit. The goal reignited hopes for the visitors, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

However, the hosts held their nerve, staying compact in defence and managing the game expertly despite late pressure and a flurry of substitutions from both sides.

The crucial win propels Heart of Lions to third on the table with 53 points from 30 matchesjust a single point behind current leaders Nations FC.

Samartex, on the other hand, remain in seventh place with 45 points and now face increased pressure to retain their top-half position in the final rounds of the season
