NCA Takes Action Against Unauthorized Broadcasting Operations

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations has taken decisive action against six entities for operating without valid frequency authorizations. In a media advisory issued on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the ministry directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to enforce regulations and shut down these unauthorized broadcasts.

The affected entities include:
1. Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani – 90.1MHz
2. I-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale – 89.7MHz
3. Abochannel Media Group, Adidome – 105.7MHz
4. Okyeame Radio Limited, Bibiani – 99.7MHz
5. Mumen Bono Foundation, Techiman – 99.7MHz
6. Osikani Community FM, Nkrankwanta – 99.7MHz

According to the statement, these stations failed to renew their authorizations, fulfill statutory payment obligations, or submit necessary documentation within the required timeframe. As a result, their licenses lapsed, making their continued operations illegal under Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).

The ministry reiterated that operating a broadcasting service without a valid frequency authorization is unlawful and warned that the NCA will take steps to shut down unauthorized transmissions.

Additionally, the ministry announced that it is conducting a review of all frequency authorizations and urged broadcasters to comply with licensing requirements to avoid similar enforcement actions.

This move signals a renewed commitment to regulatory compliance within Ghana’s media landscape, ensuring that broadcasting entities adhere to legal requirements and operate within the confines of the law.
