NPP Begins Process to Expel Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng Over “Fake Party” Comments

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated formal processes to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following comments he made during a television interview that the party says undermine its unity and integrity.

In an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026, Professor Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and openly questioned its internal democratic credentials. He further stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party.

The former minister also made allegations regarding the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary, claiming it was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it had taken “due notice” of the comments made by Professor Frimpong-Boateng and strongly rejected his claims.

“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement said.

According to the party, the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of party delegates. The statement noted that all candidates who participated in the contest, as well as well-meaning party members, acknowledged the integrity of the process.

The NPP described Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct and public utterances as “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party.”

“Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement added.
