Tripartite Committee Kicks Off Wage Negotiations for 2025

In a significant move to address the country’s labor and economic concerns, the National Tripartite Committee has officially started negotiations for the 2025 Minimum Wage.

The committee, made up of representatives from the Government, Employers, and Organised Labour/Associations, began discussions on Monday, February 3, 2025, aiming to establish fair wages for the coming year.

The primary focus of the initial talks is the determination of the 2025 Minimum Wage, which sets the baseline for the country’s minimum standard of living and ensures workers receive fair compensation for their labor.

These negotiations are critical, especially given the inflationary pressures the country is experiencing, which directly affect purchasing power and living standards.

Following the determination of the minimum wage, Felix Kwakye , Acting Spokesperson to the President indicated that committee will turn its attention to base pay negotiations, which apply to public sector salaries.

This phase of the talks will set the pay scale for government employees and other public sector workers, impacting a significant portion of the country’s workforce.

However, the negotiations for both the minimum wage and base pay for the 2025 financial year are behind schedule, as they were initially expected to be concluded by the end of April 2024.  Per the Public Financial Management Act .

In light of this, the Government is calling on all stakeholders to expedite negotiations to ensure that the outcomes can be included in the 2025 Budget.
