Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has assured Ghanaians that the country is on a path of economic recovery and will continue moving forward under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking while presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Dr Forson said recent economic improvements were a result of sound economic management and reforms implemented by the government.
Addressing Ghanaians directly, the Finance Minister said the impact of the recovery could be felt by ordinary citizens, including traders, entrepreneurs, and workers.
“I now wish to speak directly to every Ghanaian listening to me this afternoon,” Dr Forson said, adding that “these improvements are not abstract statistics. They are the dividend of sound and competent economic management.”
He noted that the reduction in inflation, improved purchasing power, and lower interest rates were creating a more favourable environment for businesses and households.
Dr Forson acknowledged that the measures taken to restore the economy came with significant sacrifices and that some households were still facing difficulties.
“We recognise that the sacrifices required to restore the economy were significant, and that many households continue to face challenges,” he said.
However, he stressed that the government had laid a strong foundation for sustainable growth, highlighting the restoration of fiscal discipline, return of macroeconomic stability, and renewed investor confidence.
“Fiscal discipline has been restored. Macroeconomic stability has returned. Confidence has been rebuilt,” he stated.
The Finance Minister credited the progress to the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, insisting that Ghana would not return to economic difficulties.
“Under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is not going back. Ghana is moving forward,” Dr Forson declared.
He added that the government had earned the confidence of Ghanaians to continue implementing reforms aimed at securing the country’s long-term economic prosperity.
