A-Plus Admits on Live TV: “Zoomlion Paid Me Good Money to Stop Talking About Them

In a revelation that has sparked shock and controversy, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has publicly admitted to receiving a substantial sum of money from the owner of Zoomlion Ghana Limited to cease his criticism of the company.

The outspoken MP made the confession during a live television interview, stating plainly, “The owner of Zoomlion called me several times after I posted about their contracts on Facebook. When we finally met, he paid me good money to stop writing about him on social media.”

This admission has raised serious ethical and legal questions, particularly concerning bribery, abuse of office, and transparency. A-Plus, who is known for his bold commentary on corruption and governance, had recently criticized Zoomlion over what he described as questionable government contracts. However, it appears the criticisms ceased following the alleged financial settlement.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a major waste management and environmental sanitation contractor, has previously faced scrutiny over its public sector contracts. The company has yet to issue a statement in response to the MP’s claims. Meanwhile, citizens across social media have expressed mixed reactions, with some criticizing A-Plus for hypocrisy and others praising his candor for at least admitting what many suspect happens behind closed doors.

As this story develops, it remains to be seen whether Ghana’s democratic institutions will rise to the challenge of confronting both political and corporate accountability.
