Afenyo-Markin sues Sammy Gyamfi over Extortion Allegation

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has taken legal action against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, over statements he considers false and defamatory.

The Effutu Member of Parliament disclosed the lawsuit when Parliament reconvened on Monday, August 24, 2026, amid a growing public dispute between the two over GoldBod’s operations and allegations surrounding losses incurred by the Bank of Ghana under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin said he had decided to rely on the courts to settle the matter rather than continue the public exchanges.

“In the face of the allegations of extortion levelled against me, I have chosen to take the high moral ground by submitting myself to the processes of the law,” he said.

According to the Minority Leader, writs have been filed in two separate cases.

The first, suit number GT 1029-2026, is titled Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Sammy Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Ltd. and has been filed at the High Court in Accra.

The second suit, number GR-ACH-CC-C5-02-2026, is titled Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Eric Adjei and Peace FM and has been filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.

Hon Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence that the courts would ultimately determine the issues raised in the cases.

“I have every confidence that in the fullness of time, the court will make the appropriate determination on these matters,” he added.
