Bawumia Dismisses Religious Bias Claims in 2024 Election Loss, Urges Focus on Data Over Propaganda

Speaking at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, April 23, ahead of the NPP’s ‘Thank You Tour’, Dr Bawumia described the assertions as baseless and not supported by evidence, urging Ghanaians to focus on data rather than propaganda.

When we finished the election, so many people were giving different reasons why we lost. When you look at the reasons people were offering, one of the reasons people offered was that they said that they didn’t vote for us NPPbecause our presidential candidate was Muslim. Have you not heard that? When I heard that, I said, This doesn’t make sense. This is not the Ghana that I know,” he stated.

He highlighted that during the NPP’s internal presidential primaries, he stood out as the only Muslim among ten aspirants, nine of whom were Christians, yet he was chosen as the party’s presidential candidate.

Addressing concerns about religion influencing election outcomes, he noted that his data analysis suggests his loss was not due to his faith but rather low voter turnout on election day.

In a lighthearted moment, he cited a few examples to support his point, saying, “My good friend Rev. Ntim Fordjour, he’s a Reverend Father, but I performed better than him in his constituency. He did a fantastic job mobilizing votes for me, and I’m very grateful to him.”

He concluded by stating that religion played no role in the outcome of the 2024 elections. According to him, what prevailed across all regions of the country was not religious bias, but pure political propaganda
