 Dr Bawumia Emerges NPP Flagbearer After Decisive Primary Victory

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s presidential primary held today, Saturday, January 31st

The former Vice President secured a commanding victory, polling 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 percent of the total valid votes cast. His win positions him to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes (23.76 per cent), while Dr Bryan Acheampong finished third after obtaining 36,303 votes, representing 18.53 percent.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum came fourth with 1,999 votes (1.02 per cent), and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong placed fifth with 402 votes (0.21 percent).

The primary attracted participation from over 211,000 delegates, who voted at 333 polling centres across all 275 constituencies nationwide.

Voting was conducted under tight security and closely supervised by party officials, ensuring a transparent and credible process. Observers and party leaders described the exercise as largely peaceful, with only minimal incidents reported during voting and counting.

Early trends from the collation centres had already pointed to a strong performance by Dr Bawumia, reflecting broad support among delegates.

In his victory remarks, Dr Bawumia expressed gratitude to party delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to lead a unifying and inclusive campaign. He called on all party members, including supporters of other aspirants, to come together to secure victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.
