Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park attendants following complaints that they allegedly demanded money from passengers at the airport.
The company says the action forms part of measures to clamp down on extortion and other forms of misconduct affecting travellers at Accra International Airport.
In a statement on Thursday, August 6, 2026, GACL said it was also investigating recent incidents involving personnel working at the airport.
According to management, on August 5, two Port Health officers stationed at Terminal 3 were found to have allegedly charged a foreign passport holder more than the approved fee for the issuance of a Yellow Fever Card.
The approved charge is US$20 for foreign passport holders and GH¢100 for Ghanaian passport holders. However, the officers allegedly demanded and collected US$40 from the passenger.
GACL said immediate disciplinary action had been taken against the two officers.
“Their ID cards to operate in the terminal have been withdrawn and deactivated,” the company stated.
It added that, effective Thursday, August 6, the two officers were no longer permitted to work at Accra International Airport or any other airport operated by GACL.
Management also addressed a viral video involving a Ghana Immigration Service officer who was seen allegedly demanding money from a passenger for “breakfast.”
According to GACL, the Ghana Immigration Service has confirmed that the officer involved has since been transferred from the airport.
The company said the incidents were being treated seriously and warned personnel against taking advantage of passengers.
“Management reiterates: Everyone is being watched,” GACL stated.
The company has urged travellers who encounter any form of extortion or misconduct at the airport to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities.
