President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep gratitude to God for His protection over Ghana, describing the country as an “oasis of peace” amid rising conflicts and instability across the African continent and the world.
Speaking during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the forecourt of the State House today, July 1, President Mahama reflected on the numerous crises facing other nations, yet acknowledged that Ghana continues to enjoy stability, even in the face of its challenges.
“When we look across our beloved continent, Africa, and indeed at our world, what do we see? We see conflict. We see disaster. We see instability and rising despair,” the President observed. “However, here in Ghana, we remain an oasis of peace, despite our challenges.”
President Mahama reminded the nation that the peace Ghana enjoys should never be taken for granted. Citing Psalm 124, he stressed, “If the Lord had not been on our side. And so let our nation, Ghana, say, if the Lord had not been on our side.”
According to him, Ghana’s peace is not merely the result of political decisions or government policies but the outcome of relentless prayers by people of faith. “This peace we enjoy is not simply the product of sound policy or political will. It is the result of prayer. It is the fruit of faithful believers like you who have interceded persistently for the soul of our nation on every occasion,” he said.
President Mahama went on to appreciate the crucial role of the church and religious leaders in safeguarding the country’s peace. “On this occasion, on behalf of all the people of our dear country, I want to thank all our pastors, reverend ministers, men and women of God, shepherds of the flock, intercessors, and worshippers, both known and unknown, who day after day bear up our nation before the throne of grace,” he added.
He expressed confidence in Ghana’s future, offering prayers for continued divine guidance and abundance. “Thank you, Lord, for what you have done, protecting Ghana in times of crisis. Thank you for what you continue to do, rekindling our hope, restoring our strength. And thank you for what you will do, leading us into a future of peace, justice, and abundance,” President Mahama declared.
