One Dead, Police Property Burned in Violent Clash Between Youth and Security Forces in Bawku

One person has been confirmed dead and several others injured following a violent clash between a youth group and law enforcement officers in Bawku on Wednesday.

The confrontation, which escalated rapidly, led to the destruction of key police property. A police barracks, a police vehicle, and the private residences of three officers including the Bawku Divisional Police Commander were set ablaze during the unrest.

According to local reports, tensions between the youth and security forces flared into violence, prompting an immediate response from both the police and the military. Security personnel have since managed to bring the situation under control, though residents report that the atmosphere in the town remains tense and uneasy.

Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the clash. However, investigations are underway to assess the damage and identify those involved in the violence.

Residents are being urged to remain calm as law enforcement works to restore full order and ensure the safety of all in the affected area
