“Our true opponent is not within” –  Dr Bawumia to NPP.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united as the party prepares for its flagbearer elections, stressing that internal attacks only weaken the party’s chances of victory in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to thousands of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra after filing his nomination to contest the party’s flagbearership, Dr. Bawumia urged his fellow aspirants to channel their energy into constructive competition rather than personal attacks.

“For the various candidates contesting the flagbearership, I ask, won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if instead of focusing your guns on Bawumia, you focus on holding the government accountable to show that you can lead the NPP in holding the NDC accountable?” he said.

He emphasized that the real challenge facing the party was not from within its ranks but from its political opponents. “Won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if, instead of focusing on attacking each other, we focus on selling a vision for the party and the country? Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there. We need unity to win,” he told cheering supporters.

Dr. Bawumia also assured party members that he would not engage in divisive politics during the campaign. “I promise you that just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there were anyone to create problems in the NPP, it would not be Bawumia,” he declared.

Highlighting his vision for Ghana, the former Vice President outlined plans to expand the economy through bold and innovative measures. Among them, he mentioned the introduction of a flat tax system for individuals, corporations, and imports to provide incentives for growth and investment.

Dr. Bawumia’s message of unity and his policy proposals received loud applause from the gathering, with many supporters describing his call as timely, especially as the NPP prepares for one of the most competitive internal elections in its history.
