Prez Mahama Honours Fallen Soldiers with Posthumous Promotions.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the three Ghana Armed Forces officers who lost their lives in the tragic August 6 helicopter crash will be honoured with posthumous promotions in recognition of their exceptional service to the nation.

Delivering his tribute at the interdenominational state funeral on Friday, August 15, 2025, President Mahama explained that the Chief of Defence Staff will personally oversee the ceremonial presentation of the new insignias to the bereaved families.

Under the promotions, Squadron Leader Peter Obafemi Anala moves up to the rank of Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu is elevated to Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah is promoted to Flight Sergeant.

“Accordingly, I have approved the following; Squadron leader Peter Obafemi Anala is promoted to the rank of Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu is promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah is promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant,” the President stated.

“Promotions in our Armed Forces are never given lightly, and posthumous promotions are the highest mark of respect for duty carried out to the very end,” the President said. “These honours are not mere gestures; they represent the rightful place these brave officers have earned in the service of our nation.” President Mahama stressed that these posthumous promotions are not mere symbolic gestures, but a reflection of the rightful place these officers have earned in the nation’s honour roll. He added that the benefits due to their families will be adjusted to reflect the new ranks, ensuring that their sacrifice is recognised both in memory and in legacy.
