State Funeral for Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Set for November 28

The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held in honour of the late former First Lady,  Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, 28th November 2025, at the Independence Square in Accra.

The decision, taken under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, is in recognition of the former first lady’s remarkable contributions to national development, particularly her unwavering advocacy for women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social justice.

Nana Konadu, the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, is widely celebrated for her tireless efforts in promoting education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women across the country. Through her leadership, thousands of women were empowered to participate actively in national and community development.

A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, described the former First Lady as “a woman of vision and courage whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.”

The state funeral is expected to attract high-level dignitaries, including government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, and representatives of civil society organisations.

Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was not only a prominent political figure but also a trailblazer who reshaped Ghana’s social and political landscape through her advocacy and leadership.

As the nation prepares to bid her a final farewell, many Ghanaians continue to reflect on her enduring legacy a legacy rooted in resilience, service, and the empowerment of women.
