University of Ghana Health Directorate Issues COVID-19 Resurgence Alert

The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has raised an urgent alert about a new wave of COVID-19 cases on campus. In a press release dated June 23, 2025, the Directorate confirmed that “a recent resurgence in COVID-19 cases” has been detected, with “a few suspected and confirmed cases reported in our immediate vicinity.”

The Health Services Directorate is now calling on the entire university community, students, staff, and visitors, to take immediate precautions. “All staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread,” the release emphasized.

As part of the preventive steps, the Directorate urged everyone to “wash hands frequently with soap under running water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers” and to “maintain physical distancing of at least one metre where possible.” They also advised the university community to “avoid large gatherings unless necessary” and to “ensure good ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and meeting rooms.”

Most importantly, the press release advised anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms to stay away from campus and seek medical help immediately. “Stay at home if you experience any flu-like symptoms and seek prompt medical attention,” the Directorate cautioned.

The Health Services Directorate reassured the public that it is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to provide “regular updates” to keep the university community informed.

The press release closed with a strong call to action: “Let us work together to protect ourselves and our community.”

The University of Ghana’s reminder comes at a time when many had grown complacent about the pandemic. This resurgence is a timely warning that COVID-19 remains a public health threat, and community cooperation is vital to prevent a larger outbreak.

For further information or to report symptoms, members of the university community are encouraged to contact the University Health Services.
