BoG Governor to Proceed on Terminal Leave Prior to Retirement

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, will commence his terminal leave on Monday, February 3, 2025, as he prepares for retirement.

The Central Bank has confirmed that Dr. Ernest Addison, who has served as Governor since April 2017, will commence his terminal leave ahead of his official departure on March 28, 2025, after successfully completing two full terms.

This decision is in accordance with the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), as amended, which stipulates that the Governor’s tenure is a four-year term, renewable only once.

Dr. Addison’s leave has been approved by President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Ernest Addison was first appointed as Governor of the Bank of Ghana on April 3, 2017, and was reappointed for a second term on March 29, 2021.

In a statement issued by its Communications Department, the Bank of Ghana expressed gratitude to Dr. Addison for his dedicated and outstanding service to both the institution and the nation. The statement also conveyed the Bank’s best wishes for a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.

Dr. Asiamah, who previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017, holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK. He brings extensive expertise in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic research.
