Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his address to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as thoughtful and inspiring.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Amin Adam noted that President Mahama’s delivery touched on some of the most pressing global challenges of our time, including immigration, financing for development, the Middle East conflict, and climate change.
“President Mahama’s address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly was truly commendable, particularly his insights on pressing global issues such as immigration, financing for development, the Middle East conflict, and climate change. His eloquent delivery and thought-provoking perspectives showcased his leadership capabilities on the international stage,” Dr. Amin Adam wrote.
While acknowledging the international acclaim of Mahama’s speech, the former Finance Minister stressed the importance of translating such vision into Ghana’s domestic agenda. He expressed concerns about the challenges currently facing the nation, particularly illegal mining (galamsey), and the shrinking space for free expression.
“It’s important how such a well-articulated vision and approach to international development translates to national development in Ghana, particularly as the reset economy is not resetting, whilst Galamsey is out of control and free speech is being murdered,” he cautioned.
Dr. Amin Adam concluded with an optimistic note, expressing the hope that President Mahama’s global leadership principles will shape his decision-making for the benefit of Ghana. “Let’s hope his leadership principles and global perspectives inform his decision-making for the benefit of Ghana’s development. Best wishes to you, Mr. President,” he added.
