Dr. Bawumia Urges Unity: “Let’s Stop the Internal Attacks Now”

The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on party members to immediately put a stop to internal wrangling and public attacks as the party heads toward the January 31, 2025, flagbearer election.

Speaking during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Dr. Bawumia stressed that unity and discipline are critical for the party’s success in the future.

“Ladies and gentlemen, an army that wants to win a battle must exercise discipline within its ranks,” he said. He warned that the tendency for indiscipline, the use of harsh language, and unpardonable conduct during internal competitions has proven costly in the past.

“Too often, when we are yet to choose leaders, indiscipline, unacceptable language, and unpardonable behaviour become the order of the day,” he noted. “In the end, when internal competitions are over, the attacks we would have launched on ourselves become fodder and ammunition which our opponents use to attack us.”

Referencing the NPP’s challenges during the 2024 election campaign, Dr. Bawumia cautioned that the party cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes. “We experienced it in the 2024 campaign, and we should not let it happen again a second time.”

He issued a passionate call to all party loyalists: “This is why I call on all Kukrudites to stop the internal attacks now. Let’s stop the internal attacks now.”

Dr. Bawumia urged party members to shift their focus toward the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of undermining democratic institutions. He highlighted recent attempts by the NDC to remove the Chief Justice and hinted at similar plans targeting the Electoral Commissioner.

“Let us rather focus on the attempt by the NDC to undermine our democracy and rule of law in trying to remove the Chief Justice. Let us focus on their clear intention to go after the Electoral Commissioner subsequently,” he emphasized.
